Wedding Guest List Tips

Wedding guest list

Hand write it, or type it out! Get creative!

Okay, so here are a couple of things to think about in regards to your guest list: 1. In your head, 400 people attending your wedding sounds like a party! I mean, who doesn’t want a wedding like Duchess Kate?  But remember that more people equals more money.  Nothing like maxing out the credit card to start your marriage on the right foot.  2. Who should you invite?  Well, that is where it gets tricky.  Your parents want to invite everyone they know, you want to invite everyone you know, and ultimately some people will be on the cut list.  Remember that some invites you send will be to relatives or friends who will be unable to attend.  Don’t leave people out because you are assuming they will not make it! It is polite to invite those far away guests anyways, and you may even receive a gift in return!  3.  All that being said, put some time into creating your guest list.  Get others involved in the process so you make sure you aren’t missing someone.  This part can be very time consuming, but the earlier it gets done, the more time you have to make edits and plan out costs later on.

Much Ado About… Everything

Wahoo! We look so cute! ;)

It’s been two weeks now since T, (that is what I will refer to when speaking about my fiance on this blog), popped the question.  Yes we reveled in all the congratulations that quickly followed the announcement of our engagement, downed an entire bottle of white wine (my guilty pleasure) sent to us by T’s parents, and made all of the appropriate phone calls to family and friends, of which my ears have still not recovered.  Amongst all this, we would catch each other staring at the rock perched on my finger, we would enjoy a few giggles (okay T doesn’t “giggle”), and we would smile contentedly at each other knowing that life had taken a very sharp turn into “futuredom”.  Wait, future? Yes folks, after the glaze of being ring-drunk wears off, then life takes another sharp turn into: “hey you are getting married and with that comes great responsibility.” (Yes I semi-quoted star wars there, but it was necessary).  Well if you are me, which you aren’t, but that is beside the point, then you come out of this ring-drunk episode with a hangover in which modern America likes to call: wedding planning.

Obviously not me, but she has the right idea.

Obviously not me, but she has the right idea.

The word overwhelming is a grave understatement in this situation, but it is exactly how I felt, how I feel, and how I will continue to feel until just about the time I’m enjoying that nice glass of white wine in some overpriced ballroom, in a heavy white dress, with my feet killing me.  So until then, I am going to freak out, and stress, and possibly elicit some sort of semi (not even) “Bridezilla” behavior, as T likes to call it (which clearly he needs to watch the show if he thinks any of my actions are like those diva’s).  Thankfully I have given myself time, which is crucial and definitely recommended.  Yes I want to get it all over with and start this new part of life, but I’m trying to savor the planning process and think through all of my choices.  This blog will be a journey, and I promise to leave any sort of bridezilla moments (as if those even exist) at the door. Instead I will fill you in what has worked and what hasn’t, and how I’m pulling off this wedding.
